Simplifine’s editor is a powerful yet simple tool, perfect for note-taking and organizing your research. It combines ease of use with robust features to help you structure, enhance, and connect your notes to your broader research workflow.

Using the / Sign

The / sign provides access to a range of formatting and structural tools within the editor. Below are the features you can access:

1. Headings (H1, H2, H3)

  • Use heading levels to structure your notes hierarchically:     - H1: Main headings.     - H2: Subheadings.     - H3: Smaller subsections.

2. Bold, Italics, and Underline

  • Bold: Highlight important terms or sections.
  • Italics: Emphasize key points or references.
  • Underline: Draw attention to critical information.

3. Color Text

  • Add color to specific text for categorization or emphasis. Choose from a palette to visually differentiate content.
  • Insert hyperlinks to external websites or internal Simplifine documents for easy cross-referencing.

5. Code Snippet

  • Add snippets of code for technical notes or data analysis, with proper formatting for readability.

6. Add Image

  • Insert images into your notes for visual context. This is ideal for charts, figures, or screenshots.

7. Add Table

  • Create tables directly within your notes for structured data presentation or comparisons.

Using the @ Sign

The @ sign allows you to mention and tag various entities in your notes, creating seamless connections across your research materials.

Mentions and Tags

When you type @, you’ll see six options:

  1. PDFs
  2. Sheets
  3. Notes
  4. Quotes
  5. People
  6. Tags

Tagging Files (PDFs, Sheets, Notes)

  • Tag entire files (PDFs, Sheets, or Notes) with @ followed by their name or select them from a dropdown.
  • Tagged files act like hyperlinks: Clicking the tag opens the file directly.

Tagging Specific Sections (Quotes)

To tag a specific section of a document:

  1. Highlight the section in the file you want to reference.
  2. The highlighted part is saved as a Quotation.
  3. Use @ to tag the quotation in your notes.

Quotation Features:

  • Displays the source file and page number of the tagged section.
  • Keyboard Users: Press Cmd + left click on the quotation to open the exact place in the source document.
  • Mouse Users: Click the “…” icon in the bottom-right corner of the quotation to open the original source.

Tagging People (Teamspace)

  • In the Teamspace build (currently in development), you can tag collaborators by name using the @ sign.
  • This feature enhances collaboration and tracking in shared research environments.

Tagging Tags

  • Simplifine is developing functionality to tag other tags, enabling even deeper levels of organization.
